New player, I literally do not understand anything

I picked the paradox path because the steam page seemed to say it was a good way to start. But I don't get anything. Who am I? Where am I? What's the story? I don't understand the gameplay, why am I one-shoting almost everything? Why is the game always pushing me into a fight? It seems there's a main world which is changing sometimes but also a parallel world where I go sometimes and I become a cyborg ninja, but why? Why is everything taking so long and why am I doing it when I don't even know how combat works? I just press buttons and things happen but I don't know what I'm doing

These instances take ages where I fight waves upon waves of nameless mobs but it is not fun and doesn't teach me anything. There was a point where I was supposed to protect some extractors and bring them power sources... What am I extracting, and why? Why are power sources dropping so slowly? This took ages while the game was roaring some doom music in my ears and I was just there trying to understand what the hell I'm supposed to be doing

I'm completely lost, in every conceivable aspect. There's clearly a direction, at least on the artistic side of the game. I just have no idea what it's supposed to be. Everyone I hear talking about that paradox thing seems to say they feel like they've played a tutorial, but as a new player it feels like the game expects me to already know everything
