Questions about higher level content

Hey, so I'm a relatively new player, and I've been trying to kill my first kuva lich. I've been doing the various things like getting murmurs and opening requiem relics, but the entire time, the people I've matched with have been doing almost all of the work. I know a lot of my mods aren't fully upgraded and whatnot, but in the 50-60 missions, it can take several seconds for me to kill a normal lancer with my ignis whereas other people seem to kill them with no problem.

I've found videos on builds and stuff for high level content, but I haven't really found anything that helps me understand how it works, or how to prepare for it. I know there's a fair amount of difference between my 105% serration and a fully upgraded one, but I just can't help feeling like that wouldn't make THAT much difference, and that there's way more information about this than I've been taught. Can someone teach me how this all works?
